 WANTED “Armed and Dangerous": Police seek public's help in locating suspected shooter web posted August 24, 2009  EDGEFIELD –
Edgefield and Johnston Police
are seeking the public’s help in locating a man they say is responsible
for two recent shooting incidents, one that sent a 21-year-old
Edgefield man to MCG with a gunshot wound to his back. Edward Fargo
McKenzie, 24, of Johnston, is wanted for two counts of assault and
battery with the intent to kill and numerous other charges. A reward
for information leading to his arrest is being offered. Edgefield Police Chief Ronnie Carter said Friday that his department has identified McKenzie as the shooter at the Edgewood Apartments on August 15, in an armed robbery that left the victim critically injured. Lt. Michael Cockrell said their investigation has led to warrants being issued for McKenzie charging him with assault and battery with the intent to kill, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Chief Carter warned that McKenzie is considered “armed and dangerous” and anyone with information to his whereabouts should contact law enforcement at once. The Edgefield Police Department is offering a $200 reward for information leading to his arrest. Lt. Cockrell said the identity of the person giving the information would be kept confidential. Chief Chris Aston said his department also has warrants
for McKenzie’s arrest that stem from a shooting at
the May Street
Apartments on August 13. No one was injured in that incident. “We
really want to get him (McKenzie) off the streets,” Chief Aston said.Chief Aston said he and Investigator Lamaz Robinson have tied McKenzie to the shooting and warrants were issued last week charging him with assault and battery with the intent to kill and pointing and presenting a firearm. Additional charges are possible, Aston said. This is not the first brush with the law for Mr. McKenzie. In October of 2008 he was arrested by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office in connection to an early morning armed robbery that took place in Trenton in late July. McKenzie and four others, including a juvenile, were charged in the robbery and are awaiting trial. McKenzie is currently out on bond from that incident. During the recent shootings McKenzie was accompanied by at least one other man who police are still in the process of identifying. It is unknown if the same man was involved in both shooting incidents. Area law enforcement was hoping to apprehend McKenzie over the weekend. When that did not happen they asked for the public’s help. “Somebody knows where he is,” Chief Aston said Friday.
