DOH! Car thieves leave completed college
and job applications behind in car Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 29, 2005 EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Daily.com is following up on the high speed chase we reported yesterday. Further details on the incident are as follows: Edgefield Police Officer Sam Pruett and Lt. Mike Cockrell observed a silver car driven by two black males driving towards them with no headlights on Saturday night. Lt. Cockrell turned around and the car took off. The officers gave chase as the car turned down Jeter St. towards the Highway 25 By-pass running the stop sign and entering the by-pass. Reports show the 2003 Chrysler Sebring, stolen from Andy Jones Mazda in North Augusta, accelerated to speeds up to 110 mph swerving in the roadway. The car attempted to make a turn onto Brooks St. and could not manage the turn and continued continued down the by-pass. They continued north and turned right on Morange St. then right onto Rosa Hill St. Disregarding the stop sign the suspects then turned left onto Brooks St and both suspects jumped from the car while it was still moving and fled on foot. The car continued off the road and hit a tree. The suspects were not able to be located at the scene. However, as most criminals are not the brightest of individuals, they left behind plenty of evidence. Inside the car were two cells phones, a cassette tape, a completed Piedmont Tech application with the suspect’s information on it, two shirts, a Circle K job application with a name on it, and a key chain. Arrests should be forthcoming. The value of the stolen car was said to be $16,000. Damage estimates were not available. The car was towed to the Edgefield County Sheriff's Department impound. Edgefield Daily.com will follow up on any and all arrests in the matter.
