 Wanted man flees, search ends in arrest web posted August 31, 2006 EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve a warrant Wednesday afternoon on a man at a home on Walker Street, in Edgefield. When Jason Highley, 26, saw the Deputies he fled on foot into a wooded area. Mr. Highley had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Magistrate’s Court for traffic charges and was wanted in connection to a cart theft on Saturday. Deputies converged on the area and set up a perimeter to contain Mr. Highely as a strong storm made its way across Edgefield. Deputies made a search that began around 3 pm, lasting over an hour, without any luck in locating him. Just after the storm passed, Mr. Highley was spotted again on Walker Street and the chase was on. This time Mr. Highley was unable to escape capture. Within minutes, Mr. Highley, of Lockett Road in Batesburg, was taken into custody and transported for booking at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Sheriff’s Corporal Robbie Harter said Mr. Highley was being charged with the warrant for failing to appear in court and an additional charge of use of a vehicle without the owners consent that was reported on EdgefieldDaily.com this week. Cpl Harter did not know if an additional charge of resisting arrest would be filed for the attempt to elude arrest. Mr. Highley is currently awaiting a bond hearing on the charges. For
