Sale of foreclosed Mt. Vintage property rescheduled for October
web
posted September 10, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Clerk of Court
Shirley Newby said Wednesday that the announcement that was to be made
on the Courthouse steps concerning the public auction on the foreclosed
property at Mt. Vintage was never properly made. “I take the blame for
that,” Mrs. Newby said. The foreclosure sale is scheduled to be
advertised again for three consecutive weeks with a possible auction
date in October.
Mrs. Newby said she was contacted by the Special Referee and the
attorneys on Tuesday morning and told of the change and was asked to
make the announcement to those arriving to bid or witness the auction.
Edgefield County Attorney Michael Medlock was at the Clerk of Court’s
Office to auction off a parcel of property on Lanier Road in Johnston
and volunteered to make the announcement for Mrs. Newby since she was
short handed and Family Court was in session. However, Mr. Medlock did
not pass on the information other than to say the sale had
been
cancelled and that further information could be found by reading
the
papers or contacting Mrs. Newby.
Mrs. Newby said she took responsibility for the proper information not
being announced to those attending the scheduled public
auction. “I
should have gone out and made the announcement myself,” she said,
adding that she would personally make all announcements in the future.
