  County employee fired after allegedly selling “new brass fittings” as scrap while in uniform web posted September 15, 2008 EDGEFIELD – An employee of the Edgefield County Water and Sewer Authority has been fired after allegedly stealing almost $1,000 in brass fittings and selling them as scrap metal at an area recycling facility in Augusta, Georgia. Richmond County Sheriff’s Investigators were tipped to the sale of the new fittings when the employee wore his Edgefield County Water Authority uniform drawing the attention of the recycling company workers. According to police reports, the Trenton man, who has not been arrested at this writing, reportedly called in saying he would be late for work Monday, September 8. A short time later he is said to have arrived at the Augusta Steel and Metal Company with the “new brass fittings” and sold them for $87.15. The value of the fittings was stated to be $996.36, just $3.64 short of a felony charge for the alleged theft. The employee was fired on Wednesday after allegedly admitting to the theft to department officials. The fittings were returned to the water department on Waterworks Road in Edgefield on Thursday.
