Fun in Store for NWTF Women's Event Attendees
web
posted September 17, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Only
four days remain for
women to register for a fun weekend of everything from beekeeping to
personal defense during the National Wild Turkey Federation's Women in
the Outdoors national event.
The event, which will be held Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, 2008 at the Wild
Turkey Center in Edgefield, S.C, provides women the opportunity to
experience exciting outdoor activities such as fly fishing, kayaking,
archery and much more in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
Registration costs $300 and includes meals, lodging and transportation
throughout the event. Registration for local participants not needing
lodging costs just $60 for one day, or $85 for events of Friday and
Saturday. More than 300 women from across the country have already
signed up to attend the event, but a few remaining slots are still
available. The deadline to sign up for the fun is Sept. 19.
Since 1998, the NWTF's Women in the Outdoors program has worked to
share the outdoor tradition by providing expert instruction and
hands-on education through events designed for women. During its
inaugural year, Women in the Outdoors hosted 18 events and today the
program organizes more than 400 events across the nation.
Tammy Mowry, the NWTF's national coordinator for Women in the Outdoors,
northern region, said that 2008 marks 10 years of the Women in the
Outdoors program empowering women to learn, laugh and lighten up.
"We're very excited about making this year's event even better," said
Mowry. "This is a great opportunity for women to learn about how they
can get outside and have fun in a supportive, beginner-friendly
atmosphere. We're offering two days of hands-on activities through more
than 30 classes taught by pro staff instructors, as well as guest
speakers, music, vendors, special auctions and much more."
Cheryl Cummins, who will be teaching beginner's kayaking at the Women
in the Outdoors event, encouraged women to take advantage of the
opportunity to try new things.
"Whether it's kayaking, outdoor cooking, ATV safety, photography, or
one of many other classes, the NWTF's Women in the Outdoors event will
offer something for everyone. It's a great chance to bond with other
women and learn about the outdoors, all while having a great time."
Mowry added that fellowship is a key reason why the Women in the
Outdoors program has thrived over the past 10 years, and why enthusiasm
for the upcoming national event is so high.
"The energy and level of excitement at a Women in the Outdoors event
cannot be explained - it must be experienced," said Mowry.

Outdoors Web site to download an online registration form.
