Republicans to open headquarters on Edgefield Town Square

web posted September 18, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Coming next week the Edgefield County Republican Party will be making its presence known on the Edgefield Town Square as it opens its campaign headquarters Tuesday, September 23. Party Chairman Ralph McFarland said the grand opening would be at 11 am and the public is invited to attend. The headquarters will be located next to Park Row Market in the former location of the Ten Governor’s Café which recently moved over to Main Street.

“We’re going to have signs and campaign literature available,” Mr. McFarland said. The headquarters is expected to be manned by volunteers from the Republican Party from 10 am until 2 pm Monday through Saturday with the exception of Wednesdays, when the headquarters will be closed.

In addition to campaign material and signs being made available, Mr. McFarland said they would have voter registration forms available to register new voters. “They only have a few more weeks to register.”

The cut-off for South Carolina voters to register for the upcoming General Elections is 30 days prior to the election, which would be October 4. South Carolina does not register voters by party.

Among the local Republican candidates expected to attend the ceremony are State Sen. Shane Massey, Genia Blackwell and Rodney Ashcraft, unopposed candidates for the County Council, and County Council candidate Trace Faust who is opposing Democrat Norman Dorn for the District 1 County Council seat.

The location will remain open for a week or two after the election. It is expected to be the location for local candidates to speak to supporters after the results are announced across the square at the County Courthouse on election night.
