Edgefield Downtown Shop Around a "big success"

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Down Town Shop Around was a big success Thursday with local businesses seeing a huge influx of customers throughout the day, not just during the three-hour event. Local businesses hosted artists during the 5 pm – 8 pm event in each establishment and people from Aiken, Augusta, and other surrounding communities flocked to Edgefield. Adding to the event was live entertainment provided by Bill Johns and Sid Jackson, otherwise known as “Southern Conduct”.

Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham said he was pleased with the turnout, “I think it’s a big success. I’d like to see us do more of this around town.” Mayor Durham said he was excited about the many things going on in Edgefield and he hoped the progress made in drawing people to the town would continue.

Sharon Nunnimaker, the owner of Still Magnolias, said she was impressed with the turnout as well. “We’ve been busy all day,” she said, adding that several customers came to visit Edgefield and local business early. She added that some told her they saw commercials on television in Augusta and came to enjoy shopping at the many unique stores.

A “Passport” was provided to shoppers listing nineteen local shops that would punch the cards as shoppers visited each business. Once completed and returned the shopper is entered in a drawing for an “Over the Top” gift basket filled with gifts and gift certificates. The drawing will be held today to determine the winner.
