  Metal Thieves Strike Cell Tower web posted September 27, 2012 EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a cellular phone tower Tuesday morning after a worker discovered several wires and grounding rods had been stripped from the tower site. An employee with Verizon, who owns the tower, said the missing copper wires and copper grounding rods have an estimated value of around $1,000. He was unsure of when the theft actually took place and did not provide when the tower was last checked. No evidence was able to be collected at the scene, according to an incident report.
