Town of Edgefield to Host Community Celebration and Idea Exchange
web
posted September 30, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Join the Town of Edgefield and
become a piece of the puzzle! On Tuesday, October 20th, Mayor Ken
Durham and the Town Council invite you to join them for a chance to
celebrate the successes of Edgefield while sharing your hopes for the
community. The evening will take place at the Old Kendall Mill from
6:30 pm – 8:00 pm.
To kick off the evening, the town will host a reception that will allow
citizens to visit with their neighbors, shake hands with old friends,
and enjoy the beauty of the Old Kendall Mill. At 7:00 pm, there
will be a brief welcome and introduction by Mayor Ken Durham and other
community leaders. This will be followed by a 30 minute
facilitated brainstorming session. The session will call upon all
community members to share their ideas for the future of the Town of
Edgefield.
Mayor Ken Durham stated, "For sometime I have wanted to pull the
community together where ideas can be freely exchanged within a
festive, very informal environment. The goal of this event will be
solely to identify positive, proactive ideas from those in attendance
that will direct the mayor and council in a direction that
will move our community in a positive direction.” Durham added,
“I firmly believe that if we are not moving in a forward direction then
we are falling behind. There is no such thing as standing still!"
All citizens that attend will be asked to share their ideas. For
those citizens that don’t want to speak up but still want to have a
voice, there will be puzzle pieces available where suggestions will be
taken. The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor trained
facilitators will be on hand to lead the discussion of the
community. Following the session, facilitators and community
leaders will come together to prioritize the projects and assess
feasibility. A future (more formal) community planning workshop
will be held as a follow up to this celebration.
Be sure to share your voice and be a part of the puzzle that makes
Edgefield a great place to live, work and play! Join the Town of
Edgefield on October 20th.
