United Way of Edgefield County Supports Programs That Help Local
Citizens
web
posted October 5, 2009
EDGEFIELD – The
United Way of Edgefield
County knows how important it is to help those local citizens with
special needs, from youth to senior citizens. The United Way supports
many endeavors in the county, and tries to assist those programs that
help citizens with many special needs. “People with handicaps, abused
children and abused women are among the people we should all do what we
can to help,” said 2009 Campaign Chairman Dean Campbell.
“I’m proud that the United Way helps organizations that support these
groups of people, as well as many others.”
The local United Way contributes money to MEGs Shelter for Abused
Women, Cumbee Center for Abused Persons, Edgefield County Churches
Helping Others and Helping Hands. In addition, contributions also
support Women in Unity, Edgefield County First Steps and the Johnston
Food Bank.
Also, the local United Way also helps fund the S.C. Girl Scout Council
and the Georgia-Carolina Boy Scout Council.
In addition, the local United Way recently funds the Edgefield County
211 Help Line.
The 211 Help Line is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week phone number that an
Edgefield County resident can dial (from a land line or cell phone) and
get instant answers on where to go locally for help with health issues,
housing assistance, educational challenges, food, shelter, suicide
prevention, crisis counseling or other needs.
All programs serve Edgefield County citizens.
The Edgefield County United Way is operated by a Board of volunteers
and has almost no administrative cost, so money donated by citizens can
go directly to programs supported. This year’s goal is
$80,000.
To contribute to the United Way, please mail your donation to P.O. Box
72, Edgefield, SC, 29824. The deadline is December 1 for this
year’s fund-raising drive. For more information, contact Campaign
Chairman Dean Campbell, 275-3635.
