Disaster Team leaves today

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted October 6, 2005

EDGEFIELD – The Disaster Relief Team from Edgefield 1st Baptist Church left today to return to Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana to help in recovery work that has been taking place since Hurricane Katrina came ashore weeks ago. Ironically enough they will be driving through the remnants of the 19th tropical storm, Tammy, as is enters the Edgefield County area throughout the day today.

Linda Shaver said this was the second trip the team has made and they were very excited about being able to participate in helping others. “We’re just glad we can help,” she said. With walkie talkies in hand and the vans loaded the team gathered in the Family Center of Edgefield First Baptist Church to eat breakfast and coffee that Mary Lou Brawner had prepared for the team. “It is a great ministry,” she said as she placed bacon, ham, biscuits, and coffee out for the team to eat before leaving.

The Edgefield Baptist Association Disaster Relief team is a nonprofit organization and charges no fee for the assistance they provide.  Rather, the team operates on donations from individuals and organizations. To make a monetary contribution at any time, please contact Edgefield First Baptist Church at 803-637-6139.

Team members Clay Thompson and Tim Glover left yesterday and the rest of the team; Matt McGinnis, Carolyn Conley, George Johnson, Roger Gardner, Michael Medlock, Joel Pederson, Fisher Miller, William Wash, Linda Shaver, Roger Ellis, Tim Glover, Doug Baker, Phillip Trotter, and Jenny Banner left this morning at 6:00 am.

Edgefield Town Councilman Ken Durham was also on hand to see the team off.
