Local
man killed in early morning crash
web
posted October 6, 2007
EDGEFIELD – A
two-car collision on Highway
25 near Edgefield has left an Edgefield County man dead, two people
injured, and
one man arrested. The violent crash took place around 12:25 am Saturday
morning and blocked all traffic on Highway 25 as the South Carolina
Highway Patrol investigated the incident.
According to information released by authorities at the scene a
Chevrolet Camaro was traveling north on Highway 25 and could not stop
for a northbound Cadillac that had slowed in front of the Huddle House.
The driver of the Camaro tried to avoid a collision and swerved to the
right and struck the front right corner of the Cadillac. After the
collision the driver of the Camaro lost control and slammed into a
power pole killing the passenger instantly.
The driver of the
Cadillac and his female passenger were said to have
suffered injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Edgefield
County Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not available.
The driver of the Camaro was arrested at the scene but remained
unidentified pending formal charges jail officials said when contacted
at
2:40 am.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The scene
was still being investigated at 3 am. The name of the man killed was
not released pending notification of family members. A special late
update will be placed Saturday afternoon with further information.
The fatality is the sixth on Edgefield County roads this year.
