Greenwood man injured in motorcycle crash at town hall

web posted October 9, 2009
EDGEFIELD – A 69-year-old Greenwood man was transported to MCG Hospital after a motorcycle crash around noon in front of the Edgefield Town Hall. According to information available, the man was traveling south on Main Street when a car apparently slowed in front of him and he “laid the bike down” to avoid hitting the car.

The motorcycle slid close to fifty feet before coming to a stop in from of the driveway at the Town Hall as several nearby onlookers rushed to the man’s aide. The man appeared to be suffering from shoulder, arm, hip, and knee injuries accompanied with “road rash”.

Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s Deputies diverted traffic at the scene until the man could be immobilized and loaded into an ambulance for transport to MCG.

Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham took the motorcycle and parked it at the Police Department so the man would not incur towing expenses.

Emergency workers were able to contact family members and advised them of where the man would be taken. His condition did not appear to be life threatening at the time of transport.

The scene was cleared by 1 pm and traffic restored to normal.
