Gunfire erupts at another Edgefield party

web posted October 13, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Another party erupted with gunfire in Edgefield Saturday night. A gathering on Eastview Road had already been the scene of a disturbance earlier in the night when, for the second time in a week, shots rang out prompting calls to 911 around 10 pm. Last week a party at the “Center” on Macedonia Street erupted in gunfire. Fortunately no one was injured in either shooting but as the situations become more prevalent, that could change.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Edgefield Police converged on the area but those at the incident location refused to cooperate or provide any information about who was doing the shooting. The all too familiar scenario frustrates law enforcement.

One man was taken into custody shortly after the incident, but the arrest was unrelated to the shooting report. Deputies were notified upon arrival of a separate episode and Raymond Harris, 26, was charged with malicious injury to personal property.

Incident reports were not available for the most recent report, but information obtained did not indicate that a person was being targeted and the shots were probably fired in the air. A contrast to last week’s shooting incident.

As EdgefieldDaily.com reported, last week an argument at a party led to one man pulling a gun and firing all the rounds at another man, missing his intended target and then throwing the gun at the intended victim. The suspect and the victim fled the scene and a third individual picked up the pistol and also fled the scene. Police did recover drugs from the incident location.

The shooting incident remains under investigation.
