  Officer Assaulted at Edgefield Hospital by Patient web posted October 20, 2012 EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy that transported a man to the Edgefield County Hospital Thursday on an "order of detention" from the Probate Court became enraged and began yelling and cursing hospital staff. After repeated verbal orders by the deputy to stop yell and sit down the man told the deputy he would kill him. Not long afterwards a scuffle broke out and additional officers were called to assist the deputy. While waiting on additional officers the man, whose hands were cuffed in front of him, "double punched" (using both hands) the deputy in his chest. The deputy was able to force the man back over the hospital bed and contain him as additional officers were en route. The man continued to kick furniture and fight the deputy as well as making threats. Edgefield Police arrived minutes later and the man was placed in leg shackles and full restrained so he did not pose a threat to the hospital staff, officers, or himself. He was later transported to another hospital for evaluation. According to the report, the man will be facing charges of assaulting a police officer and threatening a public official.
