One Injured in Rear End Collision in Edgefield

web posted October 20, 2012

EDGEFIELD – One woman was injured in a rear-end collision at the intersection of Augusta Road and the Bypass Friday just after noon. The crash blocked all traffic on Augusta Road as emergency crews worked to immobilize the driver of the read car and fire fighters were using oil-dry to contain oil and other fluids streaming from the heavily damaged car.

Edgefield Daily was on the scene at the time of the collision. The woman driving the Dodge Grand Caravan was stopped in the northbound lane of Augusta Road waiting to make a left turn on to the Bypass when the second driver in a Mercedes Coup slammed into the back of the van, knocking both vehicles at least twenty yards past the point of impact.

The woman in the Mercedes was complaining of neck injuries and was transported to University Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The woman in the van, along with her two passengers, both children, was relatively unharmed. The driver of the van did complain of neck pain but refused to be transported by ambulance on the scene.

It took nearly an hour to clear the scene for traffic to be reopened on the highway.

The injured woman was on her way to a relative's house in Edgefield after tending to a family member hospitalized in Aiken with terminal cancer, a family member on the scene stated.

The driver of the Mercedes was cited as being at fault in the collision.
