Investigators
make additional arrests in recent copper theft
web
posted October 22, 2007
EDGEFIELD – Sheriff’s Chief Investigator
Randy Doran said additional arrests have been made in the recent theft
of hundreds of pounds of scrap copper from an Edgefield manufacturing
plant last week. Jamie Polatty, 28, of Addison Street Edgefield was
arrested
last week and charged with two counts of grand theft in
connection to the alleged crimes. He is currently out on a $10,000
bond. Two others, Inv. Doran said, have now been charged as accessories.
Jennifer Robin Spicer, 26, Mr. Polatty’s girlfriend, and Chad Williams,
28, have also been arrested. Ms. Spicer was charged while in custody
from an October
12 arrest by the South Carolina Highway Patrol for
driving under suspension, DUI (drugs), and child endangerment. Spicer
was charged with an additional charge of being an accessory after the
fact of a felony. Williams was charged with criminal conspiracy and
released on Friday. Ms. Spicer is still being held jail records showed
Sunday.
Mr. Williams, like Mr. Polatty, is said to have been an employee
at Trantec Inc., where the thefts are said to have occurred.
Investigator Doran said the Sheriff’s Office believes they have
apprehended all responsible parties in the recent theft. However, the
three charged are not believed to be responsible for the rash of copper
thefts relating to the dismantling of air conditioning units from area
businesses and residential properties.
Those cases are still under investigation.
