  Edgefield County Sheriff's Office Ranks Among Highest in Solving Crimes and Crime Prevention web posted October 22, 2012 EDGEFIELD – According to information complied by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) comparing all 46 counties in South Carolina in several different areas of crime, Edgefield County was rated consistently as having one of the lowest crime rates in South Carolina. The formula that was used for the rankings is as follows: 1 to 46, with 1 being the highest crime rate and 46 the lowest crime rate in the State of South Carolina. The rankings for some of the crimes that were reported for Edgefield County are as follows: Murder - Rank #29 (This ranking was done by rate of 1 murder per 10,000 people based on a total population of 25,000 people in Edgefield County 0.37%) Violent Crime - Rank #46 Rape - Rank #41 Robbery - Rank #42 Aggravated Assault - Rank #46 Breaking and Entering - Rank #40 Larceny - Rank #44 Motor Vehicle Break-Ins and Thefts - Rank # 37 Juvenile Violent Crime - Rank #41 Juvenile Property Crime - Rank #43 Sheriff Dobey contributed the low crime stats largely to the dedication, training and efforts of the employees of the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, The community watch program, and the anonymous calls and tips that are made by the citizens of Edgefield County. He feels if the Sheriff's Office could increase manpower possible stats could be lower.
