Edgefield Police offer reward for information in theft case

web posted October 24, 2007
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Police Chief Ronnie Carter said his department is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in a theft on Jeter Street in Edgefield last week. The Jeter Street resident had his blue 1991 Chevrolet pick-up truck parked in his driveway Tuesday, October 16, along with a work trailer containing a riding mower, chainsaw, blowers, weed-eaters, and various other lawn care equipment used in his business totaling more than $35,000 in value. When he awoke Wednesday morning the truck, trailer, and his entire business was gone.

Chief Cater said the truck was found by Aiken County authorities the next day and has been returned to the owner. The trailer containing the Edgefield man’s lawn care machinery used in his business is still missing. “We’re offering a $100 reward for information that leads us to an arrest,” Chief Carter said.

Family members said a neighbor saw a man with a ball cap leaving with the truck around 11 pm last Tuesday night and thought it was the homeowner.

The riding mower was described as a new yellow Easy Rider professional mower. No other specific information was provided for the assorted blowers, weed-eaters, chainsaw, or other equipment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield Police Department at 803-637-4060 or 803-637-5337.
