Turkey
Federation adds to Operation Rudolph Mission for Troops in Iraq
web
posted October 25, 2007
EDGEFIELD – As part of Operation Rudolph,
members of the Marine Corps League Detachment 939, picked up a donation
of 8,000 hats and 8,000 National Wild Turkey Federation magazines from
the Wild Turkey Center in Edgefield. The items will be sent with other
donated items collected by Marine Corps members throughout South
Carolina to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force in Fallujah, Iraq.
“The NWTF’s volunteers believe in America’s military personnel and have
adopted the tradition of paying tribute to them and our great nation at
all NWTF events,” said Rob Keck, NWTF’s CEO. “As the holiday season
nears, many American Armed Forces servicemen and women are stationed
abroad protecting our freedom, and the staff and volunteers of the NWTF
wanted to show their appreciation by donating items through Operation
Rudolph.”
Operation Rudolph is a statewide program that aims to send more than
2,400 Christmas care packages to Marines in Iraq. The Marine Corps
League has been collecting packages throughout South Carolina with
anything a soldier might need or want, such as batteries, magazines,
bar soap, hairbrush/comb and DVDs/CDs or reading material.
“We think about those serving abroad every day,” said Keck. “We’re
honored by the work they do and are proud to be able to send a few
items that will hopefully make their time away from home a little more
bearable.”
Commandant Lane Parker said Detachment 939 is still collecting personal
supplies for troops in Iraq until Oct. 26. The group is collecting
items such as shampoo, socks, soap and feminine products. People
interested in helping out can drop off their donations at the H. Odell
Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road in Aiken.
The care packages will be stored in Columbia until mid-November, when
they’ll be loaded onto a military transport plane and shipped to
Fallujah.
