Edgefield Man Jailed after Assaulting Officers

web posted October 27, 2012

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man is behind bars on multiple felony charges after throwing a cement block through the windshield of a woman's car visiting a friend on Mims Street Thursday night. Donnie Allen Clark, 24, fled the scene and then fought officers trying to arrest him when he was located near the intersection of Beaverdam and Norris Streets. And things went downhill from there.

After having to be tazed to comply with being handcuffed, Clark continued to fight officers and was placed in leg shackles due to kicking officers and deputies assisting in the arrest. Clark made several threats to kill one of the Edgefield Police Officers and an Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy.

Due to having a bloody nose from an injury he claimed he received when the car owner hit him, Clark was transported to the Edgefield County Hospital for treatment prior to being booked into custody.

Clark continued to make matters worse, according to several police reports, by threatening doctors who were trying to treat his injury. At one point Clark turned his body and spat in the face of and Edgefield Officer, who had to be treated at the Hospital due to the possible exposure of transmittable diseases.

Clark continued to yell and threaten not only to kill the officers involved but would hunt them down and kill one's family as well, reports said.

After being cleared from the Hospital, Clark was booked into custody on a charge possession of marijuana and a custody hold for warrants on one count of assaulting a police officer, two counts of threatening the life of a public official, resisting arrest and malicious injury to person property.

Had Clark surrendered he would have most likely faced a misdemeanor charge of malicious injury to personal property. He now faces an additional four felony charges.

A 7:15 pm request for a booking photo was not provided by the Detention Center by press time at midnight.
