“Starbooks” Coffeehouse returns to Edgefield Library
web
posted October 31, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Back by popular demand. The
second “Starbooks” Coffeehouse will be presented by the Friends of the
Library on Tuesday, November 18 from 6-8 PM at the Edgefield County
Public Library on Courthouse Square. The March “Starbooks” event drew a
crowd of 30 patrons for live Karaoke and refreshments. The Friends
expect a larger crowd this time, as the weather turns cool.
Leonard Todd, author of the new book, Carolina Clay: The Life and
Legend of the Slave Potter, Dave, will be the featured writer. Carolina
Clay, about the author’s personal search for the story of 19th century
Edgefield artisan David Drake, has received rave notices and attention
from Newsweek, National Public Radio, and newspapers across the
country.
Mr. Todd will (probably) not sing, but you can! Country music and
music from the 60s and 70s will be available for your Karaoke
performances, or you may bring your own music to sing along with.
“Starbooks” welcomes your participation! Come one, come
all! Please stop by or call the Library at 803-637-4025 to
sign up in advance for the Karaoke Kabaret.
Coffee, of course, will be in the mugs and on the menu, or cocoa or
lemonade, if you prefer. Served for $8 in newly minted Friends of the
Library coffee mugs, your beverage may be complemented by an array of
free sweet homemade treats. Empty mugs may be purchased for $6.
Friends of the Library will also host a membership table, where you can
join the Friends or sign up to support the Library through the BiLo
barcode program. Stop by and ask one of the Friends to
explain.
Proceeds from the BiLo program, and from the “Starbooks” Coffeehouse,
benefit the Library’s activities and projects in a time of increased
library usage and community need. In particular, the Library is
raising money to install handicapped accessible doors.
Library cards are free, and books, CDS, and up-to-date DVDs are always
available to borrow. In these hard times, it is worth remembering that
you probably save $20-25 every time you borrow a book or disc. The
Library’s children’s nook is packed with books and audios and beanbags
for comfortable relaxing. Wireless computer access is available for
teen and adult research projects and activities online.
Make use of your library and come join the Friends for an evening of
entertainment and refreshments at the “Starbooks” Coffeehouse on
Tuesday, November 18, from 6-8PM!
