Town has enough money to run for a year web posted November 8, 2005

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Town Council held its regular scheduled monthly meeting Monday night. After the prayer Mayor McKie called the meeting to order and ran through the usual passing of previous meeting and the financial report. The first order of business was the audit of the town from McKinley, Cooper & Co. from Greenwood which showed the town had a year’s budget of money in reserves. “You could basically go a year without revenues,” Toni McKinley told the council.

According to the audit the town has $4,347,030 in total assets and $4,237,874 in net assets. The net expenses were $730,104 while total revenues were $763,826 with $33,722 in profits. The fund balance, or cash on hand, was $1,060,236 with a budget of a little over $1,064,000, “basically a 100% fund balance,” Mrs. McKinley told the town council.

There was no old business to discuss and the only new business was from Councilman Yeldell who wanted to have some shrubs cut and sidewalk repairs for Youngblood Ave. which the Mayor stated would be done.

Under the Administrator’s Report Administrator Gambrell told the council that letters of support for two grants were needed. The first, a LWCF grant, was being applied for to extend the walking trail. The town has almost $25,000 in the fund and was seeking matching funds with the grant to do the work. A Trail Grant was also being applied for which would be used to create a parking lot for the soccer field. The amount of that grant was also $25,000 in matching funds.

For more information on where to send the letters please contact Charlotte Cheatham at the Town Hall or by calling 803-637-4014.

Councilman Robert Rogers and Mayor McKie took the opportunity to thank all those who worked on the Heritage Jubilee and that it was a success. Mayor McKie stated, “I have had a lot of people telling me they would like to have it there again,” referring to the Kendall Mill location. He stated that if the building was still available next year they might return to the location.

After an executive session the meeting was adjourned.
