Officials,
Dignitaries arrive in Edgefield today
web posted November 15, 2005 EDGEFIELD – Dignitaries and county officials from across the state will be descending on Edgefield today as the South Carolina Association of Auditors, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors begin their Fall Conference which begins today and runs through Thursday. “I am very pleased to be hosting the conference in Edgefield County,” SCATT President and Edgefield County Treasurer Arlene Traxler said. Mrs. Traxler said so far 110 auditors, treasurers, and tax collectors have registered for the conference and in addition to them a wide assortment of state officials and dignitaries will also be attending. Among the dignitaries are SC State Comptroller Richard Eckstrom, State Senator Tommy Moore, and State House Representatives William Clyburn and Donald Smith. “It really was a challenge to put it all together,” Mrs. Traxler said. In addition to the three days of meetings and sessions the participants will have opportunities to tour the county, “there is so much history here in Edgefield County, and we’re such a beautiful county,” Mrs. Traxler said she wanted the attendees to be able to enjoy the county. There will be tours of the county and the National Wild Turkey Federation and chartered busses to take for the tours, “I’m very proud for people to see our county,” she said. Though lodging was a problem for those attending Mrs.Traxler said some of the lodging had to be “outsourced” to North Augusta and Augusta. “It still worked out very well I think.” The conference will conclude on Thursday after a short farewell lunch reception.
