Gunshots erupt at party location for third time in a month in Edgefield
web
posted November 15, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Another disturbance erupted in
gunfire early Saturday morning at the “Center” on Macedonia Street in
Edgefield that brought Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s Deputies to the
scene. Details of the incident are still being collected and EMS was
called to respond for an injury. At this time, no one was reportedly
hit by the
gunfire. This is the third report of shots fired at the popular party
location since October.
Edgefield
Police were still investigating the incident well after 3 am
Saturday. The injured party was the victim of an assault, not the
gunfire, early information indicated.
According to information obtained by EdgefieldDaily.com, the problems
erupted shortly after Johnston Police called for additional help with a
situation at a nightclub there just after 2 am Saturday.
As Edgefield Police arrived at “The Center”, two shots rang out
bringing
officers and Sheriff’s Deputies racing to the scene. As officers began
investigating an additional three to four shots rang out, according to
different reports.
Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s Deputies cordoned off a large area
around the popular location and began collecting evidence
that was said to include shell casings found at the scene, one
independent source said. Police did not confirm that report in an
inquiry at 3:40 am.
The investigation was continuing well into the morning hours and no
arrests had made by press time.
A caller to 911 reported that a man was “bleeding badly” at the
Woodland Apartments, off nearby Jeter Street just before 4 am from
unknown injuries. It is unknown at this writing if the two calls were
related.
“The Center”, a popular location on Macedonia Street for parties for
surrounding community residents, has been the heart of continued
problems including fights and gunfire
in Edgefield that has resulted in
the recovery of weapons and drugs in the past.
EdgefieldDaily.com will provide more information when official reports
become available.
