One arrested in Friday night clash at The Center

web posted November 18, 2008
EDGEFIELD – One arrest was made in the Friday night party at The Center where gunshots were also reported this weekend. According to incident reports made available Monday, 18-year-old Antonio Demarco Alvelo, of Rosa Hill Street, Edgefield was arrested in the early morning hours Saturday after the shots rang out.

Edgefield Police were called to the scene with the report of a fight in progress. As officer’s approached the crowd gather, they informed the people they would have to vacate the property. It was then, reports indicate, that “several gun shots” were heard on the right hand side of the building.

As officers hurried to the area they spotted Mr. Alvelo coming from behind a residence next to The Center. He was ordered down to the ground at gunpoint. Once he was handcuffed officers searched him and found a beer in his front pocket in addition to a small plastic bag containing a white powder substance believed to be cocaine.

Alvelo told officers that he was “jumped” as he was trying to leave the area and had a wound to his head and EMS was called to the scene. He was transported to the Edgefield County Hospital where he was treated and released and then booked on a single charge of a minor in possession of beer. Additional charges may be pending the testing of the suspected cocaine found in his possession at the time of arrest.
