Edgefield Tree Lighting tonight

web posted November 20, 2008
EDGEFIELD – The Town of Edgefield will be holding their official Christmas Tree Lighting tonight at 6 pm on the Town Square. Town workers were busy putting the final touches on the new 22-foot Christmas tree Wednesday afternoon and helping with the decorating were Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham, David Coleman, and a few local children who wanted to get involved.

Mayor Durham said that after the lighting there would be Christmas songs performed by youth choir “God’s Little Angels” and other activities.

Noah and Patrick Westbrook (left) showed up and wanted to help decorate the town’s new tree. David Coleman assisted the two Edgefield youths in being a part of the preparations.

The artificial tree came with a price tag of around $9,000 Mayor Durham said, but with the extras purchased the total cost was closer to $11,000. The reusable tree is placed on the northeast corner of the square.

“We wanted it to be seen by as many people as possible as they entered the town,” Mayor Durham said. Lighting up the courthouse was another ambition he would like to see in the future.
