Downtown Edgefield Gears Up for State Sales Tax Holiday

web posted November 22, 2006

EDGEFIELD -- Merchants throughout the downtown Edgefield area will be participating in South Carolina’s One Time, Thanksgiving Sales Tax Holiday this weekend only!  Beginning at 12:01 am on Friday, November 24th and ending at midnight on Saturday, November 25th, area residents are encouraged to take advantage of this state sales tax reduction.

Sam Crouch of Crouch Ace Hardware enthusiastically stated, “I think the sales tax holiday will be huge for the town.  In South Carolina ONLY, residents will be able to save a significant amount of money.  In addition to the 5% savings, visitors will also be able to take advantage of our great sale…Ace One Day Sale.  We will be opening at 6:00 am, so shop early while the supplies last.”

While the state is waiving the 5% sales tax, local option sales taxes have not been waived.  That means that if you are purchasing a gift in downtown Edgefield, rather than paying the regular 6%, visitors will pay 1% sales tax.  It’s a great opportunity to save during this busy holiday season.

Crystal Arnold, Discovery Center Manager stated, “We are pleased to be able to participate in this great opportunity for shoppers of the state.  And, we certainly hope that this will be an opportunity for folks to come out and check out all of the great things available in downtown Edgefield.  The Discovery Center will be opening early at 8:00 am to welcome visitors.”

As a part of the Heritage Holiday celebration being held throughout the month in Edgefield, merchants have come together to showcase the county.  This sales tax holiday is another great opportunity to explore the beautiful downtown areas of our county.  Remember, SHOP LOCAL, THINK LOCAL, BE LOCAL this holiday season.
