Edgefield teen arrested on counterfeit money charge
web
posted November 25, 2008
EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield teen was arrested
Saturday evening after passing counterfeit money at a local store. The
18-year-old went to a local store and made a purchase only to have the
clerk notice that the money he gave was actually fake a short time
later and called police.
The teen returned to the store and met with Edgefield Police and gave
conflicting stories as to where he got the funny money. The teen was
detained and taken to the Edgefield Police Department where he,
according to police reports, gave officers information that a student
at Strom Thurmond High School was printing the money and “gave it to
him” and told him he could take it and get “change”.
Travis Lee Martin, 18, of Dogwood Lane, Edgefield, was arrested and
charged with passing counterfeit money. The case is currently under
investigation. Two other suspects were listed in official reports, but
neither has been charged at this time. One of the two listed is a
juvenile.
Additional arrests are expected in the case.
