A Season to Begin Working Together
By Senator Shane Massey
web
posted November 27, 2007
GUEST COLUMN – We are so behind on our
Christmas shopping. As you know, my wife, Blair, and I have been pretty
busy since July. Three elections and a whirlwind of activity
since has been the order of the day. We haven’t had much time for
anything else.
And I love every minute of it.
However, I can’t let another day pass without thanking you. I
want you to know that I am humbled and honored that you selected me to
be your S.C. Senator. When the Legislative session begins in
January, I’ll proudly represent you, pledging that I’ll give you 100%
determination and hard work. But I won’t forget that I’m in this
seat because you put me here. Elected representatives would do
well to remember that we are in these seats temporarily.
This Christmas Season also reminds us that we’re on this earth
temporarily as well. It brings me comfort to know that our
heavenly home awaits. But until then, I believe we have a duty –
a God-given responsibility – to bring good, responsible government to
all people.
The past four months are just the beginning. Now, we get down to
governing. And that critical work begins with you.
In the coming months, I’ll announce a series of meetings and other
initiatives throughout the Senate 25 District to draw on your
experience, knowledge and creativity. I want to hear your
concerns and ideas in person whenever I can. However, I’m always
available by phone (803-480-0419), and I’ll read and respond to your
e-mails (ShaneMassey@scsenate.org) and letters (P.O. Box 551,
Edgefield, SC 29824).
For those of you who are web-savvy, I will be re-launching my campaign
website at www.senatormassey.com within the week. I will update
you with weekly blog entries, videos, and news from Columbia where I’ll
be working hard to represent you.
We all know that we can’t agree on everything. That’s human
nature. But I assure you that I want to defend our families,
restore accountability in government, and strengthen our economy so we
can move our state forward. There are different paths to get us
to that goal, but together we can find the best path – even if it
shakes things up.
This time of year, I’m sure you’re not thinking much about the election
process or even what laws will get passed next year. This is the
season for family and friends. This is time of year we can all
enjoy the cooler weather and weather the crowded stores.
So, from our family to yours, Blair and I wish you the happiest of
holiday seasons, and we pray for a blessed and prosperous New Year for
us all.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some shopping to do.
