Keesley named as Grand Marshall of Edgefield Christmas Parade

web posted November 29, 2006

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Christmas Parade Committee announced Tuesday that Dr. Sharon Keesley will be honored as the Grand Marshall in this year’s Christmas Parade. The parade will be held this coming Saturday at 1 pm on Main Street in Edgefield and will end with the arrival of Santa Claus.

Dr. Keesley, who resigned as Superintendent of the Edgefield County School District recently after eight years of service, has spent her entire career serving the students and parents in Edgefield County. She will continue to serve until the end of the fical school year that ends in June. Dr. Keesley began her teaching career at Douglas Elementary in 1973.  After teaching at W.E. Parker, Dr. Keesley began working in the district office earning a Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and a Doctorate in Education Administration.

Dr. Keesley said she was taken “totally by surprise” when she got the call about being Grand Marshall. “It’s an honor and I am thrilled,” Keesley said, “I’m not only honored but truly humbled by it.” Dr. Keesley said her career in the Edgefield County School District has been rewarding and, “I have been blessed by God to have been given such wonderful people to work with and I am thankful for the closeness that everybody has here.” Over the years Dr. Keesley said she has often been asked if she had any children to which she would reply, “Yes, 4,000,” referring to the county students.

After the parade Santa will arrive at the Heritage Corridor Discovery Center to greet children and adults who would like to tell him personally what they want for Christmas. Photos opportunities will be available.

Reached by EdgefieldDaily.com’s super secret satellite link with the North Pole, Santa said he too was looking forward to the parade, “I am looking forward to meeting with all of the good boys and girls in Edgefield this Saturday.” Santa said he has completed his list of who has been naughty or nice and is in the final stages of checking it twice, “there are some who are still borderline,” Santa said, adding he has increased the size of his sleigh and added extra reindeer, “due to the amount of coal I have to deliver to your county councilmen for raising taxes so high that families are going to cut back on gifts for their children in order to pay their property taxes this year.”
