“Dr. Ned” retires after 40 years of healing

Contributed report / photos
web posted December 1, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Dr. Benjamin E. Nicholson, otherwise known as “Dr. Ned”, is retiring after 40 years of service at the Edgefield Medical Center. A drop-in was held Sunday afternoon at the National Wild Turkey Federation Conference Center to honor his years of service to the county. An estimated 200 people attended during the two-hour event.

A DVD slideshow of Dr. Nicholson’s life was shown on a large screen projector as those attending reminisced about the years gone by.

(Left)  Dr. Nicholson was accompanied to the drop in by his wife Katherine, sons Ned and Thomas, and his grandson Ben (far left). The drop in culminated with Dr. Nicholson receiving a custom garnet and black Gamecocks golf cart (pictured below) given by the Edgefield Medical Clinic, and an engraved watch from the employees.
