Downtown Shop-Around Event Returns to Edgefield

web posted December 3, 2007
EDGEFIELD – The popular Downtown Shop-Around event will return to Edgefield this Thursday, December 6th from 4pm to 8pm.  The Downtown Shop-Around is a newly created event that was a big hit when it first debuted in September.

During this Downtown Shop-Around guest artists will once again fill the shops and sidewalks of the downtown businesses.  Artists will be giving demonstrations of their work, which varies from painted canvas to wood carvings to swings made from tires.

The Edgefield Regional Arts (ERA) association has helped to match artists with stores for the event.  The ERA also operates Paperwhites (located on the square), which showcases twenty-seven artists.  There is a variety of artistic media in the store with everything from iron works to published writings to jewelry.

The passport system was a well-liked part of the last Downtown Shop-Around and it will return for this event.  Simply pick up a passport at any participating location the day of the event and the store owners will punch your card as you visit their shop.  Turn in your completed passport and a winner will be drawn to receive a basket full of wonderful merchandise from Edgefield businesses.

Jerry Galloy, owner of Glass Images, said that he looks forward to the Downtown Shop-Around event because it is a “good idea that brings in people from other areas that are interested in art.”  When speaking of his guest artist Mitzi Brennan, he said that she looks forward to coming back for the event because she enjoys showing people her glass creations.

Ladies from the Oakley Park historic museum will be strolling the streets of Edgefield in costume.  Make sure to talk with these ladies as they will be happy to entertain any curious shopper with stories of Edgefield’s exciting past.
