Santa and snow arrived in Edgefield on Sunday

web posted December 7, 2009
EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Christmas Parade was held on Sunday with a great turnout of those seeking to get a glimpse of the dozens of floats, entries, and of course Santa himself. Essie May Nicholson was this year’s Grand Marshall and led the parade to the town square and then took her place at the viewing stand with emcees Jane Herlong and Calvin Henderson.

The parade was filled with beauty queens, youth groups, and a number of other independent entries. The Strom Thurmond Marching Band entertained the crowds as they followed behind the Rebel Cheerleaders leading the way for the Region Champion Rebel Football team.

At the end of the parade was the man all the children were anxious to see, Santa Claus riding atop a fire engine of the Edgefield Fire Department throwing candy and waving to the boys and girls. As he passed the viewing stand the snow began to fall on the town square much to the delight of parents and children alike (below).

Below is a short photo essay of the parade.
