Burglars take jewelry and homeowner’s car

web posted December 8, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Sheriff’s Deputies were busy Monday morning after a passing neighbor spotted three men in the back of a nearby home off Moore Road with ski hats and dressed in dark colors. When deputies arrived the men were gone but an open door was found. Within in an hour and a half a burglary was reported at a Mays Way home just miles away.

Deputies entered the home with the open door to see if they could locate anyone inside but did not see anyone or anything out of place and found no indication of a forced entry. The homeowner was notified of the incident and the home was secured. Deputies patrolled the area looking for a champaign colored car, possibly a 4-door, which was seen at the home but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Meanwhile the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a burglary at a Mays Way home, located only a few miles away, with a report of a similar vehicle being spotted in the area.

The second home was burglarized with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and other items taken in addition to the owner’s white 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Deputies began patrolling the area as investigators arrived at the home to process for evidence. An alert was issued for area agencies to be on the look out for the PT Cruiser with a SC tag bearing BAZ 178.

The only description given was of two black males, one being described as “chubby” and “light skinned” and the other being about 5’ 8” tall weighing between 150 and 160 pounds wearing blue jeans and dark blue hoodie.

Anyone with information or spotting the stolen vehicle is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.
