Oakley Park Museum holding "soup and sandwich" fund raiser
web posted December 10, 2005

EDGEFIELD – The Oakley Park Museum is holding a fund raiser over the next two weekends to help pay for painting and restoration of the historic home which houses the museum. The home, built in 1835 by Daniel Bird, is one of the most historic structures in the county that still stands. “It is a grand house,” Clarisse Wise of the United Daughters of the Confederacy said.

The UDC took possession of the property in the 1940’s with the understanding that they would maintain the property. This weekend, and next weekend (Dec 16-17), the Oakley Park Museum will be hosting a soup and sandwich lunch with tea for $7.00 and deserts for $1.25 between the hours of 11:00 am and 2:00 pm with all proceeds going to the painting and restoration of the home. “There is just so much history here,” Ms. Wise said as she walked through some of the rooms furnished with historical paintings and artifacts. Tours will be offered at a cost of $5.00.
