Break-ins, suspicious activity report numbers grow in Edgefield
neighborhood
web
posted December 11, 2009
EDGEFIELD – An unknown person seems to be
targeting the homes on West Terrace and Gray Streets in Edgefield,
according to recent police reports. Multiple reports show suspicious
activity, break-ins, someone banging on doors and the sides of the
houses, and property being moved around inside and outside of the
homes.
One of the victims stated to EdgefieldDaily.com that her repeated
problems have taken place for over six months causing her to change the
locks on the doors, but the problems continue.
This week alone there have been two break-ins and one report of loud
noises at the homes. On Sunday one woman returned home with friends
after going to the parade and found the side door of the home forced
open. Nothing in the home appeared to be missing. Later Sunday evening
Edgefield Police were called back to the home after the owner and
friends returned from going out to eat to find the front door of the
home open.
The woman stated she was sure she locked the door and checked it before
leaving after the first break-in. She reported that a picture in the
front of the home had been moved as well as a pillow on her bed.
On Wednesday a home on Gray Street reported a break-in just before 10
pm when the woman living at that home said she came home and later
discovered a window broken out in the kitchen and a door pried open,
reports state. The only thing reported missing from the home was
personal clothing items, two of which were found in the back yard.
Early Thursday morning, two neighbors on Gray Street reported hearing
loud noises outside and called each other to see if the other was okay.
Police were called and were told by the two women they both heard the
noise and that a light on the back of one home with a motion detector
was activated.
Nothing appeared to have been tampered with.
Edgefield Police have stepped up patrols in the area and an
investigation is ongoing. No description of a possible suspect was
available.
