Edgefield Police seek armed gunman
web
posted December 21, 2007
EDGEFIELD –
Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s
Deputies made two attempts to arrest one of three men wanted in
connection to an armed robbery on Gary Street in Edgefield Wednesday
night. Julius Griffin, 21, of Slade Road, Edgefield, is being sought
for armed robbery, assault and battery with the intent to kill,
burglary in the first degree, possession of a weapon during the
commission of a violent crime, and pointing and presenting a firearm.
Griffin is considered to be armed and dangerous.
According to police reports made available on Thursday, an Edgefield
man was visiting his girlfriend at her home on the 300 block of
Gary Street when the couple heard a knock on the door. The two were
reportedly playing cards in the bedroom and ignored the knock. A short
time later three armed gunmen
dressed in black with black ski masks entered and began shouting
demands and
pointed the gun at the head of the boyfriend.
At some point the boyfriend tried to wrestle the gun away from one of
the assailants and two of the men began “pistol whipping” the man
causing a head injury. The boyfriend was able to remove the mask from
one of the attackers, injuring the attacker’s eye in the process. The
man’s girlfriend then recognized the attacker as Griffin. When she
called out Griffin’s name he allegedly threatened to kill her.
The three men then fled the scene with a set of keys to the home and a
car and two cell phones. They were last seen
in the Woodland Apartment complex just off Jeter Street a short time
later. Police say Mr. Griffin’s girlfriend lives at the Woodland
Apartment complex.
The boyfriend was treated for a head injury at the Edgefield County
Hospital and was later released.
On Thursday Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s Deputies made two attempts
to arrest Griffin, once at the Woodland Apartment of his girlfriend and
a second attempt at his mother’s home on Slade Road. Both attempts were
unsuccessful.
Griffin is described as a black male approximately 5’ 4” tall weighing
125 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He may be suffering from an
eye injury received in the altercation. Anyone with information to Mr.
Griffin’s whereabouts is asked to call the Edgefield Police Department
at 803-480-2093 or the Edgefield County Sheriff’s office at
803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. Griffin is considered to be armed and
dangerous and should not be approached.
The identities of the other two assailants are known to police and they
are currently being investigated. Their names have not been released at
this time. They face many of the same charges authorities said Thursday.
