Sen Graham supports "terrorist bill of rights"

web posted September 18, 2006

OPINION – Republicans who get elected to office and then act like Democrats are known as Rino’s (Republican in name only). Among such Rino’s are Republican Senators Lindsey Graham, John McCain and John Warner who in the latter part of last week got together with the liberals on the Democratic side of the isle and presented to the Senate a bill that could be rightly named “The Terrorist’s Bill of Rights”. No one questions the liberal leaning of McCain and Warner, but South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham comes from conservative South Carolina and holds the esteemed seat left by Sen. Strom Thurmond.

Sen. Graham has broken from his conservative base before as he did when he became one of the “gang of fourteen” that prevented the Majority in the Senate from reinstating the rules of the Senate to prevent filibusters of nominations to the judiciary. That cost Graham a lot of support, but perhaps not enough to prevent his re-election in the future. That may have changed now with his aligning himself with the most liberal of Democrats to protect terrorists rather than Americans.

The plan Graham supports is to grant prisoner of war status to terrorists and also give them the full protection of the Geneva Convention. The terrorists do not qualify for these protections and it is only the generosity of the American military that the Islamic terrorists are even allowed to live. Under the Geneva Convention these individuals can be shot without being tried by military tribunals or courts. That is a fact.

However, with the liberals in America, including the liberal media, the hand-wringing and worry of what other countries who support Islamic terrorism will think of us permeates their thought process. Sen. Graham has shown his propensity to curry favor with these liberals by joining them in support of the plan.

Perhaps Sen. Graham has become a little too comfortable in Washington D.C. and cannot remember the roots from which he came. Perhaps Sen. Graham has higher political ambitions on the coattails of Rino McCain. Maybe Mr. Graham just wants to be loved by the liberal media the way they fawn over Sen. McCain every time he shows his true liberal leanings to the world.

Whatever Sen. Graham’s motivations are, they are not those of his conservative constituents in South Carolina. When the time comes to elect our senators we will remember the actions and words of Sen. Graham and will make sure he remembers them too as he campaigns in our area.

The last thing South Carolina voters need is a lobbyist for Islamic terrorists acting as our Senator. Shame on you Mr. Graham.
