Hixon should apologize for "classless" letter
web
posted September 24, 2007
OPINION – With the Republican run-off
election just over a week away, Shane Massey sent Bill Hixon a letter
saying he would like for both to sign stating they would not be
involved in attack ads or negative campaign tactics during the two-week
period. Rather than sign on, Bill Hixon released a letter that accused
Mr. Massey of attacking him and then proceeded to attack Mr.
Massey. A
truly classless act to say the least.
In his letter Mr. Hixon bemoans being a victim of negative attack ads.
In reality, the ads from a political action committee (PAC) contained
information that accurately accounts Hixon’s support of a Democrat for
the very senate seat he is seeking as a Republican candidate and his
support for a Democrat for governor rather than Republican Gov. Mark
Sanford. Hixon claims to be a “Reagan Republican”, yet, when an
independent conservative PAC calls Mr. Hixon a chameleon, he cries he
is being attacked.
It seems Mr. Hixon wants to have it both ways.
When EdgefieldDaily.com reported in 2006, long before Hixon was a
candidate, of his property values going down while everyone else’s went
through the roof and it appeared in campaign literature by the same
PAC, he claimed he was being attacked again. Hixon also attacked
EdgefieldDaily.com, even when we were the media outlet that stopped the
only false story being circulated from continuing.
We assume that is gratitude, Bill Hixon style.
Obviously Hixon’s claims to be a Republican are dubious and we believe
his whining over information reaching voters eerily sounds like Hillary
Clinton claiming a “huge right wing conspiracy” when the truth was
discovered about Democrat President Bill Clinton’s Oval Office affair
with a young intern. Democrat John Kerry did the same thing when a PAC
ran ads in 2004 showing actual footage of him lying to the US Congress
when he falsely accused the brave men and women of our armed forces of
war crimes during the Viet Nam war.
Perhaps Mr. Hixon has spent too much time in Democrat campaigns that he
is confused as to which party’s playbook he should be using to run his
own campaign.
Regardless, for Mr. Hixon to openly attack his “fellow Republican”
opponent when Massey offered up an olive branch for a clean campaign
was unconscionable and shows what we feel is Hixon’s true character. We
feel it was manipulative, hypocritical, and outright dishonest.
Mr. Hixon should apologize to Mr. Massey and the people of the 25th
District. If he does not, it will only add arrogance to the bothersome
character traits we feel Mr. Hixon has displayed recently.
