Eye on the town square
web
posted January 6, 2009
EDGEFIELD – If you
are on the Edgefield
Town Square and you get the feeling that somebody is watching you, you
may not be paranoid after all. Chances are somebody, somewhere, is
watching. Mayor Ken Durham informed the town council that a new camera
has been placed atop the old Rocky Shop looking down on the town square
and will become “live” in the coming days. “I’ve been wanting to do
this for a long time,” Mayor Durham said.
Ken Bess and Dave Johnson donated the camera, computer equipment, and
their time to install the camera. Once the installation of the computer
equipment is completed the view from the camera will be available to
anyone over the internet. A link will be provided from the town’s
website. EdgefieldDaily.com will also feature the link for our readers.
Mayor Durham said the view from the camera will be live on the
internet, given a few seconds delay, and the footage will be stored on
a computer system for several months at a time in the event of
vandalism so police could review the footage to try to identify
suspects. There were no costs to the town for the camera, computers, or
installation.
The camera will also be available to others interested in visiting the
town and can view the town square to see what the town looks like.
EdgefieldDaily.com will announce when the camera becomes active.
