Edgefield Town Council Gives $2,000 to ECDA for Holiday Advertising

web posted October 2, 2012

EDGEFIELD – In one of the most bland town council meetings recently, the only key issues were a vote to provide the Edgefield Community Development Association (ECDA) $2,000 towards their advertising efforts during the upcoming holiday seasons and a resolution to commit to providing a safe work environment for town employees.

Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham said that the funds direct to the ECDA were provided every year and the group is hoping to reach out to the two state area in their advertising of the town during the upcoming ad campaign. "I'm really excited about their work," Durham said.

The vote to provide the funds was unanimous with Mayor Pro-tem Bill Jackson absent.

A vote to approve a resolution to support a safe work environment was also passed unanimously.

Most of the meting was members of council praising the recent events held in the town. Town Councilman Herbert Yarborough said all the events held this weekend were a big success.

Mayor Ken Durham agreed and said there were many more functions scheduled over the rest of the year that he hoped would continue to draw tourists to the town. He also mentioned the new fountain at Slade Lake that has recently been installed. "I think it's beautiful," Durham said, "especially at night with the lights on."

Councilman Roger Roberts commented on the church service held on the Town Square Sunday morning. Other council members agreed that it was a positive for the town. He commented on how clean the square was after the service.

The council then voted to go into executive session to discuss a personnel matter. The Police Committee conducted a meeting prior to the town council meeting.

The results of both closed meetings were not made available to the public.

Mayor Durham reminded everyone of the upcoming Heritage Jubilee that will get underway this weekend at Oakley Park.
