web posted December 4, 2013

EDGEFIELD The Edgefield Town Council met Monday night in its last regularly scheduled meeting before the Christmas holidays. Following the invocation, Council member John Ellis was welcomed back after having been out several weeks with foot surgery. In a larger piece of business, Council adopted on second reading Ordinance 2013-03, an ordinance authorizing the donation of town property located at the end of Tranter Drive, tax map numbers 138-00-00-060 and 062 to the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The motion was made by Council member Bill Jackson and seconded by Council member Jasper Lloyd, following Lloyd's question if the land consisted of two parts and Mayor Ken Durham's answered in the affirmative.

Council further approved unanimously a letter of request from Kerry Klein to host the Eighth Annual Shamrock Run on March 15, 2014.

In further business, Council adopted the minutes of the Nov. 4, 2013 meeting and the financial report for November 2013.

Under Committee Reports, Council member Herbert Yarborough reported the Edgefield Fire Departmet had five calls and two drills during the month of November.

In the Mayor's Report, Durham thanked the heads of the departments for putting up the Christmas decorations and the Edgefield Community Development Association for their role in the tree lighting.

He also reminded everyone that December is a full month of activities, with this Saturday, Dec. 7th's History Celebration alone hosting a number of events.

This Saturday's events include: the Groundhog Kiln Opening from 9 to 10 a.m. on the corner of Highway 25 and Highway 430 where handmade pottery will be sold straight from the kiln; the Grand Re-opening of the Blacksmith Shop with new blacksmith Jamie Von Stevens where wrought iron and aluminum works of art will be for sale; Thurmond Burnett's Famous Homemade Chicken Stew Fundraiser for the Edgefield Civic League from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the Tompkins Library where stew may be purchased by the quart and taken home for $10 or may be eaten by the bowl on site for $7.50 with bread, pickle and tea; A Book Sale and Sidewalk Sale at the same time and place as the Civic League Fundraiser to benefit the Tompkins Library; the Christmas Spirits Tour of Willowbrook Cemetery to benefit restoration of the cemetery, from 2 to 3 p.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with tickets $5 each, and with hot apple cider and assorted desserts available afterwards at the Tompkins Library; and a showing of the movie, "Polar Express" on the Square at dark.

On Sunday, the Town will host the Annual Christmas Parade on the Square, with entertainment beginning at 1 p.m. Town employees were also reminded of the Employee Christmas Dinner on Dec. 17.
