Bi-weekly gas survey

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted August 31, 2005

County – Gas prices, which usually go down after Labor Day’s last blast for the summer, are doing the opposite and in double digit fashion. Prices around Edgefield County rose as much as thirty cents or more before the day was done. Some fuel services said prices will continue to rise throughout the week and people should expect prices to reach near $3.00 a gallon by the weekend.

President Bush has signaled a willingness to release petroleum reserves, created after the gas crunch of the 1970’s, which could send prices back down. No decision has been made as of yet.

The explanation offered for the rising prices is Hurricane Katrina, which took dead aim on the refineries in Louisiana that supply twenty-five per cent of all fuel produced in the United States. Many complain that has nothing to do with the gas stored in the tank farms which was produced from much cheaper oil.

Even with the rising prices Edgefield County has some of the lowest gas prices in the nation with a large portion seeing prices at $3.56 a gallon and rising.

Edgefield Daily.com will continue to post our price surveys, now twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. The results of the survey are below. Currently the average price of a gallon of regular gas is $2.56. Note the lowest prices given below said they knew they were going up tomorrow but did not know how much. The highest price was at Sportsman’s Corner in Merriwether at $2.69 and the lowest was Monk’s Corner and Shell QP Express, both on Lee St in Johnston with a price of $2.36.
