web posted June 29, 2005

Rodney Bucket, 22, of Barkwood Drive in Greenwood plead guilty to robbery charges in the March 9, 2004 armed robbery of Mr. Cortez Gilchrist and received a nine year sentence with credit for time served in General Sessions Court last week.

According to police reports Mr. Gilchrist was walking down Jeter St in Edgefield when a car stopped and four men jumped out with weapons and ordered Mr. Gilchrist to the ground. Mr. Gilchrist stated in the report the men said to him, “Don’t run nigger, you know what this is. Get on the ground.”  All suspects were "hooded" black males.

The men, armed with two pistols and a sawed-off shotgun, which Mr. Gilchrist said was held to the back of his head, then proceeded to steal a cell phone and $250 cash from the victim. About twenty minutes later the same individuals were reported to have committed another armed robbery on Simpkins St. in Edgefield. Evidence collected at the scenes led to the arrests.

According to information provided James Holloway,22, of Saluda, Travis Kinard, 22, of Greenwood, and Edrick Tolenm, 18, of Greenwood were arrested and plead guilty and are serving sentences. Mr. Bucket is the forth to be charged and the plea agreement allowed charges of Petite Larceny, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a weapon during a violent crime to be dismissed.

Kenneth Perry of Brooks St., Edgefield was also named in the incident.

Mr. Bucket was processed at the Edgefield County Detention Center on June 23, 2005.
