Live After 5 Series Kicks off today in Uptown Greenwood
web
posted March 19, 2009
GREENWOOD – The streets in Uptown
Greenwood will be jam packed again this season with the return of the
Live After Five free concert series. On the third Thursday of each
month from March 19th through October 15th, the air will be filled with
music as award winning performers take the stage from 5:30 – 8 pm at
the Countybank plaza. Not only does the music line up for this year’s
series include a broad spectrum of music ranging from country, R &
B, beach, and rock, but it will also feature special performances by
area school and church groups.
“2008 was a great year for the Live After Five concert series,” said
Angie Jones, manager of Uptown Greenwood Development Corporation
(UGDC). “We hope to continue the success again this
year. Hack Bartley has joined us once more as Artistic Director
of the concert series, and he has lined up a great assortment of
performers. We will also feature special guest performances by area
schools and churches again this year. Not only is this a great
way to involve the community, it also allows us to showcase the
talented youth in our area,” Jones concluded.
“UGDC and the City of Greenwood are working hard together with local
merchants to encourage increased pedestrian traffic in the Uptown
area. The Live After 5 Concert Series is a great way for
Greenwood residents and visitors to enjoy our beautiful community,”
said Jones. “We believe the success of the concert series proves that
people want to see more events held not just in Uptown, but Greenwood
as a whole.”
The concert series kicks off Thursday, March 19th with the sounds of
The Embers. Having played for presidents and princes, students and
bankers, at the beach and in the city, on record and in concert, The
Embers are one of the most popular beach bands around. Sponsored
by Elliott Davis, the event also features special performances by
groups from Woodfields Elementary School.
