Alewine Elected to State Board for Respiratory Care
web
posted September 25, 2009
GREENWOOD – Jerry Alewine, dean of Health
Sciences at Piedmont Technical College, has been elected to serve on
the board of the South Carolina Society of Respiratory Care. SCSRC is a
chartered affiliate of the American Association for Respiratory Care
and is recognized as an official extension of that organization.
The SCSRC was formed to encourage, develop and provide education
programs for those persons interested in the field of respiratory care
and diagnostics, to advance the science, technology, ethics and art of
respiratory care though institutes, meetings, lectures, publications,
and other materials, to facilitate cooperation and understanding among
respiratory care personnel and the medical profession, allied health
professions, hospitals, service companies, industry, governmental
organizations and other agencies interested in respiratory care and to
provide education to the general public in pulmonary health promotion
and disease prevention.
Alewine was elected to serve as the Jr. Director for the Piedmont
region, representing the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee,
Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens,
Saluda, Spartanburg and Union.
“This is a tremendous honor,” said Alewine, a registered respiratory
therapist and Piedmont Tech graduate. “The SCSRC should be working with
the students so that when they graduate and start work, they will have
a desire to continue in the organization that will provide them with
support and continuing education.”
Alewine said he would like to see the organization utilize the network
of respiratory therapy instructors available across the state.
“I’ll be focusing on issues related to students and colleges during my
tenure on the board,” he said. “I would like to see an
‘instructor swap’ where we share instructors from the different
respiratory schools. Also, I want an instructors/educators forum. With
this, all the respiratory therapy instructors from across the state
would meet share ideas, concepts, best practices and outcome successes
with the rest of the state. This sharing could benefit us all.”
