Community and Cultural Partners to host “Fall” First Friday festivities

GREENWOOD – Various cultural organizations
and businesses have partnered to present a large variety of activities
and exhibits during the upcoming First Friday activities on Friday,
October 3, 2008 in Uptown Greenwood. Some new organizations, including
Meridian!, Greenwood’s first artist incubator facility, will be
celebrating their grand opening during this evening.
Other activities
include:
• As part of First Friday, McCaslan’s will be hosting
a Book Signing from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. with Jodie and Judy Adamick,
author and illustrator of “The Princess of Hope Hill”.
• Reception at the Arts and Visitors Center at the
Federal Building to open new art exhibit featuring works from Dick
Inglese, Ruth Hopkins, and Nancy Perry. Reception from 5:30 –
7:30 p.m.
• Greenwood Community Theatre presents a Kids 4 Kids
production, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing at 8:00 p.m. As part of the
performance, one of Greenwood’s own fourth graders, Maria Gonzalez,
will be displaying some of her art in the lobby of the Theatre during
this evening.
• The newly renovated Museum will be open and
featuring a Book Signing with Kevin Witherspoon, author of “Before the
Eyes of the World: Mexico and the 1968 Olympic Games”. The
Museum’s current exhibit, “Hatching the Past; Dinosaurs, Eggs, and
Babies” will also be on display. $5 admission for adults, $2 for
students, children and members free.
• Artists of Meridian 12 will host their grand
opening from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Twelve fine art studios will
be open offering a wide variety of artwork from paintings, jewelry,
metalwork, fiber, glass beads, and origami.
• jon holloway will be presenting new works and
hosting a special print sale at the sundance gallery.
• Jimary Java will be displaying the artwork of
Emilia and Zbignew Fitz featuring photography and prints of some of
their large format originals.
• Various Uptown businesses will be open throughout
the evening featuring sidewalk sales and discounts to First Friday
patrons.
“We are happy that this First Friday event is catching on to folks in
our area. We hope people will continue to bring visitors to Uptown
Greenwood to experience the Emerald Triangle Cultural District as well
as patronize Uptown businesses,” said Dohnna Boyajian, First Friday
planning committee member and arts supporter.
Partners in this First Friday event include Uptown Greenwood, Greenwood
Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau, Arts Council of Greenwood County,
Greenwood Community Theatre, and The Museum.
Maps for all First Friday activities will be available at various
businesses in Uptown Greenwood prior to the event. The Arts Center at
the Federal Building will also be providing information beginning at
