Here's Your Card

web posted July 24, 2007
JOHNSTON – EdgefieldDaily.com has another Here’s Your Card nominee, this time from Johnston late Saturday night. Gregory Arnold Aiken, coincidentally from Aiken, SC, drove up to a traffic safety checkpoint around 11:20 pm at the intersection of Highway 121 and Edisto Street. As Mr. Aiken got to the officers a Sheriff’s Deputy, assisting in the checkpoint, asked for license, insurance, and registration.

So Mr. Aiken reaches over, reports indicate, and opens his glove box to get his paperwork and the officer sees a plastic baggie of what is believed to be marijuana plop down in plain view. The deputy asks Mr. Aiken to hand him the baggie which he does. Mr. Aiken it turns out is driving under suspension, records showed, and he was placed under arrest.

His passenger, Steven Louis Harris, also of Aiken, was questioned about the alleged drugs. Police reports indicate he claimed the drugs belonged to Mr. Aiken, but Mr. Aiken was claiming it belonged to Mr. Harris. Both men told police they had smoked marijuana earlier that evening.

So, police charged both men with possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana and Mr. Aiken had an additional charge of driving under suspension. They were transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center for booking and later released.
